The young OCC Lady Blue Knights encountered some struggles down south this weekend. OCC ran into national powerhouse Wabash Valley in the first game and was downed 12-2. The Lady Knights were led at the plate by sophomore Ashley Roberts (1-3, RBI) and freshman Selina Roman (1-2, RBI).
The second game of the day was against a strong Logan squad. OCC was downed once again by the score of 11-0. Freshman shortstop Emily Arnold led OCC at the plate by going 1-1 with a walk.
Saturday’s early game brought a match-up with Shawnee Community College. Freshman Teia Nidey found her groove in the early season by giving up just one earned run. Another freshman, Chelsie Cowman, came in and pitched three solid shutout innings. However, it took until the sixth inning before the bats came alive, and the Lady Knights fought hard to sqeeze out a 2-2 tie before the game was called due to time constraints. Freshman Lindsey Wedding (0-3, RBI) and sophomore Jackie Daugherty (1-3, RBI) provided the scoring for OCC.
The second game of the day was another contest with Kaskaskia. Freshman Katie Harmon took the mound and threw well. However, cold bats and even colder fielding led to a 7-0 loss. Sophomore Jamie Lytle led OCC at the plate by going 1-3, yet scorched the ball all three times at the plate. The Lady Knights continue their fall scrimmage schedule at Wabash Valley for a double header on Tuesday, September 11, starting at 2pm.
