The weekend of September 15-16 saw the Lady Knights in Ft. Branch, IN to compete in the Gibson Southern Classic.

Game 1

The first game on Saturday for OCC was against Oakland City University. The Lady Knights jumped out to an early lead as the first five batters all collected hits in the first inning, scoring three runs. Oakland City came back, however, and tied the game at six in the top of the seventh inning. The bottom of the seventh had the Lady Knights with the top of their lineup coming to the plate. Sophomore Ashley Roberts reached on an error, and was then sacrificed to second by sophomore Jamie Lytle. Freshman Taylor Christophel then provided the dramatics with the game winning hit to center field. Freshman Katie Harmon picked up the win for the Lady Knights by going all seven innings, surrendering six runs (four earned) on 8 hits, and four strikeouts with one walk. Ashley Roberts, Jamie Lytle, Taylor Christophel, along with sophomore Jackie Daugherty all collected two hits apiece in the game.

Game 2

The afternoon game on Saturday put the Lady Knights against St. Mary of the Woods from Terre Haute, IN. Freshman Chelsie Cowman got off to a rocky start, giving up three runs in the first inning. She then settled down and finished with three scoreless innings before handing the ball over to Katie Harmon. Katie continued her strong fall season and gave up two runs (one earned) in three innings. However, it was enough to insure a Lady Knights defeat, as they could only muster four runs, losing 5-4. Sophomore Ashley Roberts continued her hot bat as she led the Knights by going 3-4 at the plate. Freshman Taylor Christophel went 2-3.

Game 3

The first game Sunday was a rematch from the Logan Tournament against Shawnee Community College. That first game ended in a 2-2 tie. The bats of the Lady Knights continued to stay hot as all but two players collected a hit. Ashley Roberts, once again, led the Blue Knight attack by going 2-3 with a double and triple. Jamie Lytle and Selina Roman both collected two hits as well. Freshman Teia Nidey continued to pitch well as she gave up only two runs as the Lady Knights won, 9-2.

Game 4

The afternoon contest was against a well-known opponent, Wabash Valley. The Knights continued to improve from a doubleheader against the Mt. Carmel team from the previous week and won by the score of 9-5. Freshmen Selina Roman and Emily Arnold were both perfect at the plate, with Selina going 3-3 and Emily going 2-2 with two doubles. However, the big blow came in the fourth inning when freshman third baseman Amanda Hostettler hit a 3-run homerun over the left field fence. Freshman Katie Harmon pitched extremely well and picked up the win with five strikeouts.

Game 5 Championship Game

The Championship game was against another well-known opponent, Lincoln Trail. Freshman Teia Nidey came back from the Shawnee game and held Trail scoreless for five and a third innings before handing the ball over to Katie Harmon. The Knights managed to survive a late rally by Trail and won the game, 5-4. The Knights were able to string together timely hits for the victory, as five players collected hits in the game.

The Lady Knights are back in action Thursday, September 20 at Terre Haute, IN as they face St. Mary of the Woods for a doubleheader starting at 2:30.
