Week of 9/10-9/14
September 16, 2007 at 9:40 pm | In GeneralThe Lady Blue Knights went on the road twice this week to play in a pair of doubleheaders. On Tuesday, 9/11, the Lady Knights traveled to Mt. Carmel to take on Wabash Valley. Game 1 was a hard fought contest that found the Knights on the losing end, 5-2, despite a strong pitching performance from freshman Katie Harmon. The Lady Knights were undone in the first inning, as Wabash scored four runs. The Knights were led at the plate by freshmen Taylor Christophel and Lindsey Wedding who both went 2-3. In the second game, the Knights were downed 8-0. Ashlee McDowell, Selina Roman, and Chelsey Sechrist, all freshman, collected hits in the loss.
On Thursday, 9/13, the Knights traveled to Robinson for a twinbill with Lincoln Trail, the reigning Region 24 champions. Game 1 was a pitching contest which saw freshman Teia Nidey taking the mound for the Lady Knights. Trail scored three runs in the second inning (1 earned), and it turned out to be enough as they held on to win, 3-2. OCC was led at the plate by sophomore Ashley Roberts, who went 2-4. Game two saw the Lady Knights fall behind by the score of 11-0 by the fourth inning, only to come storming back and get within striking distance. However, the comeback fell just short, as Lincoln Trail held on for a 12-10 victory. Olney was led by Ashley Roberts once again, who went 3-5 with 3 RBI. Others who collected multiple hits were freshman Selina Roman (2-4), freshman Ashlee McDowell (2-4, 2 RBI), sophomore Jackie Daugherty (2-2, 2 RBI), and freshman Taylor Christophel (2-4, 2 RBI). The Lady Blue Knights continue action this weekend at the Gibson Southern Tournament.
Logan Icebreaker Classic
September 7, 2007 at 10:48 am | In GeneralThe young OCC Lady Blue Knights encountered some struggles down south this weekend. OCC ran into national powerhouse Wabash Valley in the first game and was downed 12-2. The Lady Knights were led at the plate by sophomore Ashley Roberts (1-3, RBI) and freshman Selina Roman (1-2, RBI).
The second game of the day was against a strong Logan squad. OCC was downed once again by the score of 11-0. Freshman shortstop Emily Arnold led OCC at the plate by going 1-1 with a walk.
Saturday’s early game brought a match-up with Shawnee Community College. Freshman Teia Nidey found her groove in the early season by giving up just one earned run. Another freshman, Chelsie Cowman, came in and pitched three solid shutout innings. However, it took until the sixth inning before the bats came alive, and the Lady Knights fought hard to sqeeze out a 2-2 tie before the game was called due to time constraints. Freshman Lindsey Wedding (0-3, RBI) and sophomore Jackie Daugherty (1-3, RBI) provided the scoring for OCC.
The second game of the day was another contest with Kaskaskia. Freshman Katie Harmon took the mound and threw well. However, cold bats and even colder fielding led to a 7-0 loss. Sophomore Jamie Lytle led OCC at the plate by going 1-3, yet scorched the ball all three times at the plate. The Lady Knights continue their fall scrimmage schedule at Wabash Valley for a double header on Tuesday, September 11, starting at 2pm.
